Nuclear icebreakers Taimyr and Yamal are entrusted with the beginning of the transit navigation at the Northern Sea Route, press center of FSUE Atomflot says.
Nuclear icebreaker Vaigach is to close the navigation period in the Ob Bay. From early May, nuclear icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy will undergo scheduled maintenance to be prepared for the summer-autumn navigation period and cruise voyages which traditionally start in late June.
Nuclear icebreaker Vaigach is currently continuing implementation of the contract with Norilsk Nickel on creation and maintenance of the ice canal at the Yenisei. This work is expected to last till mid May.
“Navigation in the Ob Bay is expected to last longer – icebreaking support near port Sabetta will be probably required till late June. Nuclear icebreaker Taimyr continues escorting vessels towards the port under construction (about one vessel per week)”, the statement says.
