Latvia offers China to cooperate in yacht production business

During the Latvia-China Economic Forum in Riga, the Latvian Inventors Association's board chairman Aldis Eglajs offered cooperation to Chinese businessmen in the launch of a yacht production business at Ventspils High Technology Park.

During the meeting, the Chinese counterparts were acquainted with a system of underwater wings for yachts, invented by Eglajs and patented in five countries, which, in Eglajs' opinion, could make the producers of the new product a monopoly on the global market, informs LETA.

The unique yacht wings are not yet being industrially produced, and the Chinese representatives were offered to take part in setting up the production at Ventspils High Technology Park. The production could also be launched in Engure, where trimarans "Catri" designed by Eglajs have already been built, whereas the Ventspils High Technology Park would first host a research center, and then a production unit.

The production unit in Ventspils would be of strategic importance, taking into account that Ventspils is also a yacht port.

At the same time, active research work would continue, probably together with representatives from the Riga Technical University's branch in Ventspils.

Eglajs believes that Chinese presence in the project would be important because of its huge experience of industrial production, which Latvia is lacking. Also, taking into account that the new products are expected to be in great demand, part of production could be moved to China.

Eglajs admits though that not much was achieved at the first meeting with the Chinese businessmen, yet the goal was to draw their attention to the new invention, and they indeed were interested.
