Transshipment of export cargo fell by 35% to 882,200 tonnes. Transshipment of paper and cellulose fell by 48% to 52,500 tonnes, timber – by 15.5% to 306,400 tonnes, loaded containers – by 70.3% to 6,800 tonnes, coal – by 86% to 49,900 tonnes, other general cargo – by 42.3% to 47,000 tonnes, oil products – by 3% to 419,600 tonnes.
Turnover of coastal trade cargo fell by 42.7%, year-on-year, to 1.073.8 million tonnes.
In August 2009, throughput of port Archangelsk fell by 10.3%, year-on-year, to 359,600 tonnes.
The port of Archangelsk is located in the estuary of the Severnaya Dvina flowing into the White Sea. This port with a round-the-year navigation is on the way of the Northern Sea Route. The port specializes in transshipment of general cargo, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metal, fertilizers, heavy equipment and dry bulk cargo.
