Hong Kong port cargo throughput down 9% in Q2

Total port cargo throughput was 61.7 million tonnes in the second quarter, down 9% on the same period last year. Inward port cargo fell 6% to 35.7 million tonnes and outward port cargo fell by 13% to 26 million tonnes. The Census & Statistics Department yesterday said for the first half of this year total port cargo throughput, compared to the same period last year, fell 13% to 113.9 million tonnes. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, total port cargo throughput grew 11% in the second quarter. Inward and outward port cargo rose 12% and 10%.
