Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 6.2% to 3.323 mln t in Jan-Aug’14
In January-August 2014, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 3.323 mln t (+6.2%), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain climbed 1.5 times to 1.564 mln t, construction materials – up 20.4% to 358,400 t, timber – down 22.8% to 295,300 t.
The port’s container throughput dropped by 20% to 2,605 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo increased by 14% to 24,554 units. Passenger turnover declined by 1% to 29,289 passengers. The number of calls climbed by 3% to 920 units.
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2013, the port of Liepaja handled 4.84 mln tonnes of cargo.
