The last generation landing craft of project 21820 "Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov" built for the Baltic Fleet at the Yaroslavl Shipyard (Yaroslavl Shipbuilding Plant) has returned home after state acceptance tests in sea test range of the Baltic Fleet, the Baltic Fleet press service said.
The shipbuilder's delivery team carried out in conjunction with the vessel crew and members of the state acceptance team maneuvering and speed tests, checked operation of all units, systems and components, navigation and radio equipment, as well as weapon systems.
The ship conducted a live fire exercise against surface and air targets, performed several landings of various wheeled and tracked vehicles afloat and on the coast.
Upon signing of the acceptance / handover certificate and hoisting flag of Russian Navy the ship will enter service with the Russian Baltic Fleet of amphibious assault ships.
Landing crafts of the project 21820 are intended for high-speed transport and landing of marines, wheeled / tracked vehicles on unequipped coast. High speed of the boat is ensured by the presence of the air cavity on the bottom, powerful diesel engines М507А-2D and ventilated water jet propellers.
An artificial air cavity on the bottom enables the vessel to achieve high speed. The 21820 project crafts are powered by twin 9000 hp M502A-2D diesel engines and water jets. General characteristics: full displacement - 280 tonnes, LOA - 45 meters, breadth overall - 8.5 m, draft - 1.9 m, max. speed 35 knots (at waves height of 0.75 m), max. cruising range - 500 nm, crew – 6, cargo hold capacity - 27x6,8x2,34 m, 140 tonnes.
