Morstroytechnology LLC suggests creating ice melting ship for operation at port Sabetta (Yamal). According to the company, the project and the programme for the ship building is based on scientific research and analytical study carried out by Morstroytechnology.
The vessel will be able to melt 625 cbm of ice per hour, or 13,500 t of ice per day. Special power unit with a gas turbine will have a capacity of 58 MW. It will take 15 minutes to replace two tanks with liquefied gas located on the deck. The ship is to have two Azipod units (3MW each) ensuring operation in ice up to 1.5 meters thick with a possibility to move both forward and aft.
When the gas terminal is fully operational, tankers are expected to arrive for loading every 40 hours. In winter periods, when the temperature is -25 Celsius degrees and lower, this will result in considerable increase of ice masses with accelerated formation of ice breccia and ice ridges in the port’s water area.
Ice masses in the water area and fast ice belt at the berths will severely interfere with the ability of tankers to maneuver and can result in termination of port operations.
The vessel is to be built through the efforts of RAS Institute of Electrophysics and Electric Power Engineering, Krylov State Research Center, Arctic Engineering Center, Electrosila plant, Power Machines OJSC and design bureau Baltsudoproekt.
