Severnaya Verf shipyard completes major painting and insulation works at Fleet Admiral Kasatonov frigate (photo)
Major painting and insulation works have been completed at Fleet Admiral Kasatonov frigate of Project 22350 being built by Severnaya Verf shipyard (United Shipbuilding Corporation), the shipyard’s press center says.
Project 22350 multipurpose frigates developed by Severnoye Design Bureau are large seagoing warships capable to accomplish wide range of tasks. The ships have extended forecastle deck design, with innovative solid superstructure made of composite materials (polyvinyl chloride and carbon fibers) with radar-absorbing capabilities to reduce or block radar signals that reflect off from the surface of planes.
Design displacement is 4,500 tons; length is 130 meters; beam is 16 meters; draft is 4.5 meters; max speed 30 knots, range – 4,500 miles, endurance – 30 days, crew - 180-210 persons. Ships of the project are armed with a 130-mm gun mount A-192, missile system with Onyx and Caliber missiles capable to hit sea and coastal targets, Poliment-Redut SAM system.
Severnaya Verf shipyard held an official launching seremony for the first serial frigate of Admiral Gorshkov-class (Project 22350) Fleet Admiral Kasatonov on December 12, 2014. The 22350-series lead ship Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov is currently undergoing state trials Severnaya Verf shipyard is also building “Admiral Golovko” and “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Isakov” ships of the series.
The St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf Shipyard’s history dates back to 1912. Now it is a leading shipbuilding company of the Russian defense industry. The shipyard specializes in building cruisers, destroyers, minesweepers, patrol vessels and submarines destroyers, research and passenger vessels, timber cargo carriers, trawlers, container ships and ro-ro vessels for the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign customers. Russian Gov’t picked Severnaya Verf Shipyard as the main contractor for the frigate and corvette class ships (Project 22350, Project 2038/20385). The company was included in the register of the Federal Service for Defense Contracts (Rosoboronzakaz) of sole suppliers of Russian weapons and military equipment and is the sole contractor for communications ships of Project 18280.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
