Total freight throughput at the Port of Rostov-on-Don in January-April 2016 increased by 27.2% (YoY) to 3,772,000 tonnes, the Port Captain Pavel Zakharchenko told our regional correspondent.
In the reporting there was a solid gain in nearly all segments: export of crude oil and petroleum products jumped by 30.3% to 1,066,000 tonnes, of grain goods – by 79.4% to 1,128,000 tonnes, of bulk coal and coke – by 23.8% to 334,000 tonnes, of scrap metal – by 28.7% to 291,000 tonnes, of liquid bulk (edible oil) – by 7.3% to 174,000 tonnes, of general cargo – by 9.2% to 158,000 tonnes. At the same time dry bulk segment demonstrated a 9.9% decline to 576,000 tonnes.
Cargo loading at the port during increased by 36.7% to 3,266,000 tonnes. Unloading on the contrary, decreased by 23.2% to 215,000 tonnes, and transit – down 1.7% to 292,000 tonnes.
The Port Captain's service registered in the reporting period 1066 calls and 1123 departures of ships (2015 – 878 / 929).
Four-month volume of bunkering in Rostov-on-Don was 24,100 tonnes (+56% yoy).
Captain Zakharchenko commented: "A 36.6% increase in loading operations of the port itself along with favorable weather conditions positively affected the overall growth in freight traffic. Total number of calls increased by 20.9% compared to 2015."
