The scope of financing of the activities on debottlenecking of inland water ways of Russia will be defined in HI’2016, Elena Lashkina, Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, told IAA PortNews.
Shifting of cargo flows from land to inland water transport is supposed to be facilitated through expansion of IWW capacity, development of port infrastructure, development and implementation of state support measures, introduction of competitive rates for cargo transportation by inland water transport, creation of supplementary cargo base at inland water ways, improvement of document flow system and creation of an information environment for multimodal technological interaction between the transport process participants.
On March 1, 2016 RF Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved the Plan of the Russian Government focused on ensuring of stable social and economic development of the Russian Federation in 2016. The Plan includes the activities on debottlenecking of inland water ways of the Russian Federation and ensuring safe operation of hydraulic engineering structures through transition to full-scale financing of IWW and navigational hydraulic structures maintenance.
In February 2016, Russian Government adopted the "Strategy of Development of Inland Water Transport to 2030", which outlined the problems hindering the development of the domestic shipping industry.
