ABS Greater China Division hosted a workshop entitled “Cybersecurity – Real Case Studies and Practical Solutions for Shipping” on June 14 in Hong Kong. Many representatives from the Hong Kong shipping community participated the workshop, the Company said in a press release.
The objective of the workshop is to provide Hong Kong shipping community with ABS’ practical approach to evaluating cybersecurity risk management practices implemented in a maritime organization, measuring their level of readiness to cyber events and mitigating risks related to cybersecurity.
The half-day workshop, presented by Paul Walters, ABS Director of Cyber Service Delivery, addressed the topics including maritime cybersecurity, cyber-related maritime incidents, cybersecurity as operational risk management challenge, MSC 98 agenda for cyber risk management, ABS CyberSafety® program framework and assessment process.
The practical solutions and risk-based approach that ABS takes to achieve cybersecurity sparked interest from the participants. Following the presentations, workshop participants exchanged views with ABS technical specialists, discussing the cybersecurity concerns that they are facing and the ways to tackle the cyber risks.
In addition to the subject public workshop, ABS Hong Kong also carried out private sessions for several ship management companies.
