“Managing Port Company, LLC”, its member, JSC “Vostochny Port” and the Japanese company “Marubeni Corporation”, have signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding for the arrangement of specialized equipment assembly for Phase 3 and commissioning works. According to the press release of Vostochny Port, the parties have agreed on the joint implementation of advanced technologies in the sphere of operational environmental safety in pursuance of previously made contracts which total value is equivalent to US $130 million.
The document was signed during the 3rd Eastern Economic Forum, which was held on Russkiy Island in Vladivostok on September 6-7.
The memorandum is a logical extension of interaction between “Managing Port Company, LLC”, “Vostochny Port” and “Marubeni Corporation”. This summer, the Japanese company completed the delivery of large-capacity equipment for the Phase 3 of the Coal Handling Terminal, including reclaimers, stackers and ship loaders. All the equipment is unique and second to none in the Far East. Therefore, port holding experts say, correct assembly and commissioning will ensure smooth operations of the equipment, both in terms of loading process and environmental impact.
According to the document, “Vostochny Port” shall continue the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in the sphere of environmental safety of the production facilities. For their part, “Marubeni Corporation” is going to ensure high quality of the equipment installation, assign engineers for the work performance and supervision, and attend individual and overall tests of the completed equipment.
Irina Olkhovskaya, First Deputy Director General, Commercial Director of “Managing Port Company, LLC”, said: “the delivery of equipment manufactured by “Marubeni Corporation” for the Phase 3 Coal of the Handling Terminal of “Vostochny Port” and the modernization of equipment in the existing facility is an illustrative example of effective Russian-Japanese cooperation in the sphere of port infrastructure development”.
Throughout the agreement term, the parties shall inform each other on the occurrence of any circumstances which may require joint discussions, and meetings if necessary to resume joint operations.
The 3rd Eastern Economic Forum comprised a Russia-Japan session where issues of interaction between large businesses of the two neighboring countries were addressed. In his report, Teruo Asada, Board Chairman of “Marubeni Corporation”, Chairman of the Japanese-Russian Committee for Economic Cooperation, emphasized that today “Vostochny Port” is engaged in expanding and retrofitting the coal handling terminal. The project will be complete in summer 2018.
Teruo Asada also mentioned the importance of international cooperation between Russia and Japan within the construction project for the Phase 3 of the Coal Handling Terminal of “Vostochny Port”, during a meeting of RF President Vladimir Putin with heads of large companies , which was held during the forum.
Hajime Kawamura, Managing Executive Director of “Marubeni Corporation”, added: “Marubeni Corporation” is interested in the development of Russian port infrastructure, which is committed to satisfy the growing demand coming from the Pacific Rim countries, including Japan”.
