Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg “Marine Façade” PLC says it is implementing a project to establish a maritime passenger shipping company in St. Petersburg within the frames of the approved 2017-2021 Plan of Production and Financial and Economic Activities.
The establishing of the shipping company will help to increase the cruise passenger flow, including the citizens of the Russian Federation who take cruises departing from St. Petersburg. The implementation of the project will facilitate fulfilling the order of the President of the Russian Federation that was given following the meeting of the State Council Presidium on the inbound tourism development, which was held on August 17, 2015.
As part of the project activities, the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg hosted a working meeting between G. Poltavchenko, the Governor of St. Petersburg, and A. Alikhanov, the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region, on January 24, 2018. The Governor of the Kaliningrad Region voiced support for the project and stated that the new port of Pionersky would be built in the Kaliningrad Region by 2020 to become one of the waypoints in the cruise itinerary of the passenger-carrying craft, which is to be purchased at the first stage of establishing of the regional shipping company.
Georgy Poltavchenko, the Governor of St. Petersburg, asked Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, for assistance in the detailed development of this initiative. Following the mandate of the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of St. Petersburg referred to the Government of the Russian Federation a business plan for the maritime passenger shipping company to be established in St. Petersburg.
On February 21, 2018, the participants of the conference with representatives of the involved ministries and agencies of the Government of the Russian Federation, which was chaired by V. Olersky, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, who also is the Head of the Federal Agency for the Maritime and River Transport, voiced support for establishing the maritime passenger shipping company in St. Petersburg.
