ABS presents at Int'l BWT Forum in Shanghai

ABS Senior Engineer of Advisory Services Tao Shen spoke as a speaker and panelist at the 2018 International Ballast Water Technology Forum and Exhibition in Shanghai. His presentation was entitled, “Data-based Analysis of BWMS and Best Practice for Operation,” the society said.

During his presentation, Shen covered different types of BWMS technologies such as physical separation, chemical disinfection and other disinfection methods such as ultrasound and cavitation. He also spoke on the common installation and operational challenges for BWMS. Shen also spoke on best practices for operating a ballast water management system.

Shipping moves between three and five billion tons of ballast water globally each year. The international ballast water regulations require ships to follow an approved ballast water management plan.

ABS offers BWM technology evaluations. During these evaluations, the ABS Advisory Service team analyzes the vessel arrangement and provides owners with data to help them identify the most suitable BWM technology for their vessels.
