From end-April, Hapag-Lloyd will operate its own independent service from Northern Europe via Suez direct to Australia/New Zealand, having previously provided this service with a partner.
Hapag-Lloyd will introduce two additional units, and will continue to operate the service with twelve 2,500 TEU ships.
The port sequence will be: Tilbury, Hamburg, Rotterdam, La Spezia, Damietta, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Napier, Port Chalmers, Melbourne, Adelaide, Singapore, Colombo, Damietta, La Spezia and Tilbury.
Transit time from Rotterdam to Melbourne is 28 days.
In 2006, container volume in services with Australia/New Zealand was 3.9 million TEU, including exports from the region of 1.9 million TEU. Volume is expected to rise to 4.9 million TEU by 2012, according to a forecast by Global Insight.
