Samskip acquires half of Bayside Food Terminal in Canada
Samskip has taken a 50% interest in Canadian frozen food specialist Bayside Food Terminal, thus securing its first coldstore capacity in North America.
Bayside Food Terminal in Bayside, New Brunswick, Canada has a coldstore capacity of 12,000 tonnes. It focuses mainly on the frozen fish market ex Alaska. Located close to the US border, it is ideally situated for supplying production plants in the region.
The terminal operation complies with all Canadian Food Inspection Agency regulations.
According to Johan Kloosterboer, managing director of Samskip Coldstore Division, this deal complements the recent establishment of several Samskip Reefer Logistics offices in the US and Canada.
The linking of Bayside Food Terminal with the Samskip/Kloosterboer group enables Samskip to comply with customer demand for a reefer centre on the Canadian east coast.
As well as coldstores, Bayside Food Terminal also operates as a stevedoring company and ships’ agency.
