Throughput of Yuzhny port (Ukraine) up 2% in Jan.-March 07, y-o-y
In January-March 2007, throughput of Yuzhny port (Ukraine) totaled 5.497 million tons (+2.2%, year-on-year), the port’s press center reports. Cargo handling totaled 3.450 million tons (-0.7%, year-on-year). In January-March 2007 the port handled 279 vessels and 41467 open-top wagons. In March the port’s throughput amounted to 2.067 million tons (-0.3%), cargo handling – 1.406 million tons (-3.3%). In March the port handled 104 vessels and 13956 open-top wagons.
Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine capable of handling 100,000-dwt vessels. The port specializes on transshipment of liquid chemicals, grain, coal and containers. There are berths for export shipment of bulk and general cargo. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia.
