Throughput of Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport (Ukraine) up 9.4% in Q1 07, y-o-y

In the first quarter of 2007 Commercial Seaport of Iljichevsk handled 3.777 million tons of cargo (+9.4%, year-on-year), the port reports according to RZD-Partner. In March the port handled 1.578 million tons of cargo (+324 thou tons against March 2006, or +337 thou tons against February of the current year).

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo grew by 444 thou tons to 1.516 million tons, ore – by 278 thou tons to 779 thou tons, sulfur – by 69 thou tons to 183 thou tons.  Transshipment of general cargo totaled 1.875 million tons (-95 thou tons against Q1 2006). In general, the share of general cargo made 49.6% of total transshipment in January-March 2007, while in 2006 it exceeded 57% (in 2005 – 59.5%). This year, the highest volume of general cargo fall on containerized cargo, which totaled 697 thou tons (+245 thou tons against Q1 of 2006). Transshipment of ferrous metal totaled 598 thou tons (-406 thou tons), or 98.099 thou TEU (+26.272 thou TEU).

Railway-ferry complex of the port handled 364 thou tons of cargo (-33 thou tons against Q1 of 2006). Transportation of ro-ro caro amounted to 51 thou tons (+10 thou, year-on-year), while transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 5.9% to 386 thou tons. The port attributes it to a considerable drop in the energy sector (oil: -37 thou tons, to 36 thou tons, gas: -25 thou tons to 9 thou tons). Volume of edible oils grew by 41 thou tons to 341 thou tons.
