Kazakhtsan intends to create a joint venture with Zelenodolsk Shipyard

According to the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Danial Ahmetov within two weeks the joint working group will determine the needs of Kazakhstan in combat ships of small displacement. Speaking about the future joint venture the Minister mentioned “serious orders from the Kazakh Ministry of Defense”. Earlier the head of the press-service of the MoD Kanat Shainerdenov informed about the recently developed concept of the development of the Kazakh Navy before 2025 within the frameworks of which it is supposed to strengthen the fleet through obtaining the new ships of small and medium displacement. Now Kazakhstan seeks partners for implementing the concept. Kazakhstan has its own shipyard "Zenith" which also makes the ships of small displacement, but it does need a strategic partner. By the way recently Tatarstan (ethnic republic of the Russian Federation) and Kazakhstan already created some efficient joint ventures, in particular, with the truck maker KAMAZ.

General director of Zelenodolsk Shipyard Sergey Ilyin informed, that from April, 20th the working group which will include the representatives Zelenodolsk based design bureau and the plant in its turn will go to Kazakhstan for the further discussion of the technical points. This Russian Shipyard already has experience of cooperation with Kazakhstan: in 2006 delivered to this country 6 sea not self-propelled barges with the displacement of 12 thousand tons each. JSC "Zelenodolsk Shipyard n.a. Gorky" was formed in 2003 as a result of the privatization of a state unitary enterprise. The factory specializes on the construction of the "river-sea" dry-cargo ships, of medium and small ships. It is also the supplier of the ships for the Russian Navy.
