In January-March 2007, the port of Kaliningrad handled 3 820.8 thou tons of cargo (+3.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Anatoli Demenok, Director General of Kaliningrad branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Over the reported period export totaled 3 343.9 thou tons (-0.3%, year-on-year) including 2 221.8 thou tons of oil products (-3.3%), 150.2 thou tons of chemical cargo (-23.5%), 541.5 thou tons of ferrous metal (+114.1%), 27.6 thou tons of metal scrap (-29.4%), 81.6 thou tons of ferrous alloys (+0.4%). In January-March the port handled 221.3 thou tons of coal and coke (+24.7%), 12.2 thou tons of grain cargo (-43.8%). Transshipment of timber amounted to 18.5 thou tons (2.8-fold growth, year-on-year).
The port’s container turnover amounted to 20 459 TEUs, or 57.6 thou tons, (+27.2%, year-on-year). Export of ro-ro cargo decreased 6.6 times to 1.4 thou tons.
Transshipment of import cargo totaled 430.3 thou tons (+30.1%) including container turnover amounting to 24 061 TEUs (173.8 thou tons), which exceeds the results of January-March 2006 by 94.3%. Import of ro-ro cargo amounted to 4.9 thou tons (-25.8%). Transshipment of imported grain cargo totaled 70.5 thou tons (-30.2%), fish goods – 20.1 thou tons (-42.7%), refrigerated cargo – 22.4 thou tons (-35.8%). Transshipment of imported chemical cargo grew 10.9 times to 34.8 thou tons, transshipment of oil products amounted to 51.5 thou tons (no transshipment of oil products was carried out in the first quarter of 2006). Besides, the port handled 20.5 thou tons of other cargo (-25.2%).
