In January-March 2007, the port of Taganrog handled 744.5 thou tons of cargo (+92.7%, year-on-year), the port’s administration reports. Over the reported period the port increased transshipment of dry cargo by 88.7% to 537.5 thou tons. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 207.0 thou tons (5.5-fold growth, year-on-year). Stevedoring company Taganrog Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 462.1 thou tons (+69.7%, year-on-year). Priazovje OJSC increased cargo transshipment to 104.2 thou tons (3.4 times). Throughput of Taganrog shiprepair plant totaled 178.2 thou tons (2.1-fold increase, year-on-year).
Seaport of Taganrog is located at the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, 80 kilometers to the west from Rostov-on-Don. Internal basin of the port of Taganrog is protected with two breakwater piers, the Northern and the Southern ones and has six cargo berths. The port of Taganrog ensures all-the-year-round navigation through services of two icebreakers – the port and the linear ones. Ice navigation usually lasts from the middle of December to the middle of March.
