ICS not happy with new ACP changes
International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) are not satisfied with the small changes in the proposed toll raises Panama Canal Authority (ACP) presented a couple of weeks ago, says ICS together with Ibtercargo, Intertanko and BIMCO in an answer to ACP. According to the four organisations the ACP has not listened to the shipping industries demands only by postponing the new, higher, toll by a few months for some segments of ships. The organisations think the raise, which they say is about ten per cent per year, is to large an comes at the wrong time since the canal is being utilised closed to its maximum capacity whereby service may deteriorate in the immediate future. The ACP are introducing the higher tolls to pay for the expansion of the canal and because the say tolls has been lagging behind for many years.
