AP Moller Maersk to cut down US transport network
AP Moller Maersk's Maersk Line unit said in a note to customers it will phase out service to certain lower-volume locations in the US which the group can 'no longer cost-effectively serve'.
Land side costs have been driven up by bunker prices, rising terminal and rail costs, and insufficient infrastructure to support satisfying growth, and the current pricing model is therefore no longer economically sustainable, the group said.
The phase out process will be completed by April 30, Maersk Line said, adding that it seeks to provide alternative solutions for affected customers.
