China Merchants Energy pays US$343 million for four oil tankers
China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. has signed an agreement with China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co. and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. to purchase US$343 million of oil tankers in Shekou of Shenzhen Monday.
The four purchased oil tankers are two 300,000-ton very large crude oil carriers (VLCC) and two 110,000-ton double-hull AFRAMAX oil tankers.
The oil tankers will be delivered in 2009 and 2010 respectively, while payment will be settled in five terms, at 20% each term.
The tankers will be used to improve the structure of the fleet and to enhance the company's shipping capabilities, said a spokesman from the company.
