International Commercial Seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handles 2.86 million tons of cargo in Q1 07, y-o-y
In January-March 2007, International Commercial Seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 2.86 million tons of general and oil cargo (2.1-fold growth, year-on-year), Interfax reports according to RZD-Partner. Transshipment of oil totaled 2.45 million tons (2.7-fold growth, year-on-year). Transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 356.5 thou tons (+4%), including 70 thou tons of grain (+63.6%), metal goods - 276 thou tons (-2.1%).
Basic share of dry cargo transshipped at the port falls on export-oriented metal goods of Mittal Steel Termitu JSC and Casting LLP as well as on transit of metal goods produced by Russian limited liability company Uralskaya Stal. The port of Aktau located at the Mangyshlak peninsular of the Caspian Sea is the only international seaport of Kazakhstan.
