Brazilian government expected to fund dredging project
Brazil's Espirito Santo state port authority (Codesa) is hopeful the federal government will finance a dredging programme at Barra da Riacho port in the Aracruz region.
Codesa commercial coordinator Fabio Falce said the government was currently considering providing $73.7 million for the work to go ahead.
“The project has been included in the PAC (government growth acceleration plan) and we expect a government decision between May and June,” said Falce to BNamericas.
“We expect the government's decision to be positive because it is a very straightforward project,” he added.
Completion of dredging will deepen the berths to 12.5 metres (m) and allow the port to handle larger ocean-going cargo vessels.
The planned development for the port will include four separate terminals, spread over an area of 90 ha, to handle containers, grain, general cargo, liquid grain and natural gas. The port already has a wood pulp terminal.
