Russia, India complete anti-terrorist naval exercise

Russian-Indian anti-terrorist naval exercises were completed on Friday in the Peter the Great Bay near Vladivostok, Itar-Tass reports.

“All the tasks have been fulfilled,” Russian commander of the exercise and Deputy Commander of the Pacific Fleet Sergey Avramenko told reporters.

In three days the navymen of both countries mastered joint anti-terrorist actions and trained to fight sea pirates and free captured ships. Anti-terrorist groups were landed.

The warships also trained to trace submarines. The last day of the exercise included combat fire to destroy a speedboat of terrorists and floating mines.

The exercise involved Pacific fleet warships Marshal Shaposhnikov and Admiral Vinogradov, a missile boat, a diesel submarine, several mine trawlers, a tanker and two tug boats. The Indian Navy was represented by destroyers Mysore, Ranjit and Rana, as well as corvette the Kutar and the Jioti tanker.

It was the second Russian-Indian naval exercise and the first held in Northern Pacific. The first bilateral exercise was held in the Indian Ocean in 2005.
