Throughput of Yuzhny port (Ukraine) up 5.2% in Jan-May, 07, y-o-y

In January-May 2007, throughput of Yuzhny port (Ukraine) totaled 9.307 million tons of cargo (+5.2%, y-o-y), the port’s press center reports. The port’s cargo handling grew by 8.6% to 6.477 million tons. In the 5-month period the port handled 506 vessels and 68,721 open-top wagons. In May 2007, the port’s cargo turnover totaled 2.012 million tons (+21.7%, year-on-year), while cargo handling surged by 30.3% (year-on-year) to 1.451 million tons. In My the port handled 115 vessels and 14,203 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is the largest and most deep-water port complex of Ukraine capable of handling 100,000-dwt vessels. The port specializes on transshipment of liquid chemicals, grain, coal and containers. There are berths for export shipment of bulk and general cargo. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia.
