Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (KSE:042660), the world's third-largest shipbuilder, said today that it has received a 1.22 trillion-won (US$1.3 billion) order to build a container ship.
The deal from an European company calls for Daewoo Shipbuilding to build the vessel, which carries 9,100 20-foot standard containers, by 2010, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The shipbuilder has won orders worth $7.5 billion to build 48 vessels, including 18 container ships so far this year, including this latest deal.
