Russian Railroads limits cargo traffic to Estonia due to repairs

Russian Railroads Company has limited cargo traffic to Estonia because of the summer repairs of the Oktyabrskaya railroad line, RZD-Partner reports.
The Railroad Transport Charter allows the company to limit cargo traffic in any direction whenever such traffic becomes technically or technologically impossible, a company source told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Due to the summer repairs of the Oktyabrskaya railroad line and the beginning construction of the second track in the Mga-Gatchina-Veinmarn sector, the company had to limit the cargo traffic to 980 freight cars a day,” he said.
The company broadly announced the planned limitations to the public and the clients. “The limits are not applied to transit cargo,” he said.
In the words of First Vice-President Vadim Morozov, the majority of clients understood the situation and agreed to change their routes. For instance, crude and petroleum product deliveries were rerouted to Lithuanian and Latvian ports, timber was rerouted to Finland, mineral fertilizers were rerouted to northwestern Russia, and coal was rerouted to the Russian port of Ust-Luga and Ukrainian ports.
