Multipurpose transshipment complex is put into operation in the port of Ust-Luga

Multipurpose transshipment complex is put into operation in the port of Ust-Luga, PRIME-TASS reports. Investments totaled some RUR 1.6 billion.Multipurpose transshipment complex in the port of Ust-Luga is designed for acceptance, storage and export of iron-ore pellets, pig-iron, metal scrap, out-of-gage and heavy cargo as well as construction materials and equipment. The complex’s annul capacity is 13.1 million tonnes of general cargo and 3.1 million tonnes of dry and liquid bulk.

As Sergei Ivanov, deputy head of the Government, told at the opening ceremony, “Introduction of this complex lets us depend less on our neighbors in terms of port services”.

Valeri Izrailit, chairman of Ust-Luga BOD, reminded that five more complexes are under development in the port of Ust-Luga today. Two of them are to be put into operation this year. According to Izrailit, construction of a complex for transshipment of cars will solve the problem of crosses at the border with Finland.
