Throughput of the port of Riga down 3.1% in Jan-May, 07, y-o-y

In January-May 2007, the free port of Riga handled 10.342 million tonnes of cargo (-3.1%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. The highest result was demonstrated in the sector of loose cargo transshipment – 5.963 million tonnes (-11.1%, year-on-year) including 4.067 million tonnes of coal (-16.2%), 771.5 thou tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+28.4%, year-on-year). Transshipment of general cargo totaled 2.267 million tonnes (+8.9%, year-on-year) including 1.251 million tonnes of timber (-1.3%) and 699.3 thou tonnes of containerized cargo (+12%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo up 11.9% - to 2.111 million tonnes including 2.091 million tonnes of oil products (+12%).

In 2006, the port of Riga handled 25.358 million tonnes of cargo (+3.8%, year-on-year).
