In January-May 2007, Commercial Seaport of Nakhodka decreased its throughput by 20.7%, year-on-year, to 3,122.7 thou tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from East branch of Rosmorport FSUE. In the reported period transshipment of general cargo totaled 2,000.6 thou tonnes (-32.8%, year-on-year) including 68.1 thou tonnes of containerized cargo (-25.8%). Transshipment of metal amounted to 1,845.6 thou tonnes (-34.6%), metal scrap – decreased by 23.1% to 9.0 thou tonnes. Shipment of timber amounted to 1,078.8 thou tonnes (+20.9%) including 877.5 thou tonnes of round timber (+17.2%). Transshipment of sawn timber totaled 201.3 thou tonnes (+40.6%). In the 5-month period the port handled 43.3 thou tonnes of bulk cargo (1.5 times less compared to January-May 2006) including 3.8 thou tonnes of coal and coke (1.4 times less compared to January-May 2006). Transshipment of ore made 39.5 thou tonnes (1.6 times less compared to January-May 2006). Nakhodka port is located on both coasts in the northern part of Nakhodka Bay. The port has year round navigation. It is linked with railway systems of Russia and Western Europe by Trans-Siberian Line.
