AP Moller Maersk sells Stralsund shipyard to Hegemann Group
AP Moller Maersk's Odense Steel Shipyard Group said it has agreed to sell its shipyard Volkswerft Stralsund GmbH to Germany's Hegemann Group for an undisclosed sum.
'The strategic importance of Volkswerft Stralsund for the Odense Steel Shipyard Group and AP Moller-Maersk has been reduced and the shipyards have not been able to achieve operational synergy in an adequate scale,' Odense Steel Shipyard said in a press release.
The sale will not have any immediate effect on the employees, as the shipyard has a full order book into the second half of 2009, the company added.
Financial Times Germany said in June that Odense Steel Shipyard and Hegemann Group have been in negotiations over the deal for two months and added the Stralsund shipyard may also be sold for between 40 and 100 mln eur.
