IAS-Trinium gives MOL 'first and last mile' box visibility
IAS-TRINIUM, a joint venture between International Asset Systems (IAS) and Trinium Technologies, says it has established a real-time connection between MOL and its house trucking line, Central Cal Transportation.
With the new system, container gate-in and gate-out events are captured on a java-enabled mobile phone carried by the driver, and automatically imported to the computers of carriers and shippers alike.
"Many customers demand real-time information," said MOL vice president John Gurrad. "With this, we can provide up-to-date information about where containers are, which helps them be more efficient in inventory management and distribution."
The scheme is designed to streamline truck dispatch operations and enable container pickup and delivery information to be automatically updated on MOL's in-house equipment management system.
The technology, which IAS-Trinium says is the first between a shipper and trucking line at the US Port of Oakland, is a key component of the newly launched Port of Oakland Truck Tracker (PTT) initiative.
"By making pickup and proof of delivery automatic and in real-time, we're closing the last significant visibility gap in the supply chain," said IAS-Trinium vice president Chris Mazza. "Ocean carriers and shippers have been asking for a simple and elegant solution for a long time. This combination really delivers it."
