Throughput of Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport up 20.7% in 2007, to 4.8 million tonnes

In 2007, Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 4.807.4 million tonnes (+20.7%, year-on-year), Interfax reports according to RZD-Partner. Transshipment of export cargo grew by 20.5% to 3.575 million tonnes including 1.178.3 million tonnes of rolled metal (up 6 times), 516,000 tonnes of coal (+80%), 481,500 tonnes of heavy fuel oil (up 3 times). Transshipment of export containerized cargo grew by 58% - to 208,000 tonnes.

In the reported period import grew by 20.9% to 1.232 million tonnes including 696,400 tonnes of containerized cargo (up 2-fold), 307,800 tonnes of containerized cargo (+22.2%). In 2007, the port handled 157,348 TEU of containerized cargo (+74.1%, year-on-year). According to the port’s press center, in 2008 Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport plans to handle over 5 million tonnes of different cargo. The port is to increase transshipment of crushed stone, containerized cargo, heavy fuel oil and coke.
