Hanjin sets up company Down Under

South Korea's Hanjin Shipping has invested A$1 million (US$762,596) to set up a wholly-owned company in Australia, Hanjin Shipping (Australia) PTY Ltd, to handle its sales business Down Under.A branch office will be located in Sydney and is to be supported by sales offices in Melbourne and Brisbane. Hanjin hopes the new entity will improve its profitability in Australia.
At present, Hanjin Shipping jointly operates two Australia liner services: the AUS (Southwest Asia-Australia) and the NCA (Northeast Asia-Australia), handling about 65,000 TEU annually.
"By operating a direct sales organisation, Hanjin Shipping expects to promote its image in the region and build on its customer base as well as upgrade sales competency instead of relying on import cargo," a company statement explained.Hanjin Shipping opened companies in Spain and Vietnam last year. It has also set up companies this year in Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India.
