Russian vessels have finalized active search for sailors from sunken ship Sinegorye

Search for two sailors from sunken ship Sinegorye is currently carried out by only South Korean patrol boats. Russian vessels have finalized active phase of the search, Vladivostok rescue center reports according to IA REGNUM. Both Suvorovets and Mashuk vessels have left the area, while South Korean boats continue the search along coastline of Korea Republic and DPRK. The issue of further search-and-rescue activities will be solved on November 2 in Seoul at the meeting of Anatoly Yanchuk, head of State Marine Rescue Service, with representatives of Korea coast guard.

On October 21, 2006, the Sinegorye dry cargo ship headed from Plastun (Russia) to Hong Shu (China) shipping 2,794 tons of timber (including 1,289 tons of deck cargo). On October 23, the cargo ship was damaged in a storm. The water got into the hold, and the crew had to jettison part of the cargo into the sea, pump the water form the hold and head to shelter port; however, it was forced to evacuate soon. Communication with the vessel was lost after 04:00 p.m. Eleven crew members were found alive during the rescue operation. Five persons died while two persons have not been found yet.
