MISC buys 4 tankers from japanese firm

Malaysia's national shipping company MISC Berhad said Tuesday it is buying four tankers from a Japanese company for US$260 million (euro217 million), further expanding its fleet of more than 100 vessels.

In a statement, government-owned MISC said its subsidiary, AET Inc., has confirmed its order for four Aframax tankers with Japan's Tsuneishi Corp. The first of the tankers will be delivered in 2009 and the rest in 2010, it said.

MISC, which is Malaysia's third biggest company in market capitalization, said it also took delivery Tuesday of a US$65 million (euro54 million) very large crude carrier -- its eighth such vessel -- from Japan's Universal Shipbuilding Corp.

MISC is the world's second biggest operator of Aframax tankers with a modern fleet of more than 100 vessels, according to its Web site. Officials could not be reached for further details.
