Port of Portland’s container volume increased 21.3 percent to 260,128 TEUs in 2007, the growth being the strongest in three years.
The Columbia River hub reported export container traffic increased 19.7 percent to 149,387 TEUs, while import boxes strengthened 23.5 percent to 110,741 TEUs.
Grain tonnage increased 18.9 percent to 4.4 million tonnes, breakbulk tonnage gained 6.5 percent to 1.1 million tonnes, and mineral bulk cargo increased 25.1 percent to 5.4 million tonnes. At 449,307 units, auto volume fell 3.1 percent from the record set in 2006. Total tonnage through the port increased 20.4 percent to 14.4 million tonnes.
