Throughput of Aktau port (Kazakhstan) up 13.5% in 2007, to 11 million tonnes

In 2007, international commercial seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 11 million tonnes of general and oil cargo (+13.5%, year-on-year), the port’s press center reports. In 2007, the volume of oil cargo handled by the port grew by 15%, year-on-year, to 9.3 million tonnes. Total transshipment of dry and ferry cargo amounted to 1.7 million tonnes (+9.2%, year-on-year) including over 1 million tonnes of metal and 190,000 tonnes of grain cargo.

The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products. The port works all-the-year-round. The port may accept vessels with length of up to 150 meters and breadth of up to 20 meters, with draft not exceeding 6.2 meters. Seven vessels may be handled simultaneously. There are 2 cargo districts in the port – dry cargo district and oil cargo district.
