Singapore rejects bunker rumours

The Maritime and Port Authority has absolutely rejected rumours of adulterated bunkers being supplied in Singapore. "We would like to state that there has been no report, nor are we aware of bunkers supplied in Singapore being adulterated with water," the MPA has insisted.
The assertion has come in response to a report in Fairplay Daily News (3 January) mentioning "unsubstantiated" rumours of suppliers mixing bunkers with water. "MPA) keeps a very close watch over the quality of bunkers," MPA spokesman WP Ang stressed. "Singapore is the only port to have bunker quality measures such as the Singapore Standard Code of Practice for Bunkering, the accreditation scheme for bunker suppliers and quality management of the bunker supply chain."
MPA pointed out that only three bunker quality disputes were lodged last year, despite Singapore being the busiest bunkering port in the world with 51,647 operations performed in 2006. "Bunker buyers can be confident of the quality of bunkers supplied here," MPA has stated.
