Vancouver container volume hits record

Canada’s Port of Vancouver in 2007 posted record container volumes for the second year in a row, as it moved more than 2.3 million TEUs.
That performance maintained Vancouver's position as the top Pacific Northwest container port. The ports of Tacoma and Seattle finished 2007 with container traffic below two million TEUs.
Vancouver also was the only major container port in the region to increase its TEU volume, up 4.5 percent for the year. Total full containers moving through Canada’s largest port surged 8.2 percent.
Tacoma’s container volume declined nearly seven percent to 1.9 million TEUs. Tacoma’s domestic container traffic to Alaska and Hawaii increased 1.4 percent to 522,052 TEUs. The bulk of that trade, to Alaska, was virtually even with the previous year at 478,832 TEUs.
Seattle, which has not released its year-end numbers, saw volume decline about one percent over the January-November period to 1.8 million TEUs. Through November, the port’s full international inbound and outbound container volume increased by 1.3 percent and 13.4 percent.
