Hanjin, 'K' Line, Yang Ming, UASC to launch new SINA service

Global shipping lines Hanjin Shipping, "K" Line, Yang Ming, and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) are jointly launching a new Suez Canal service later this month, called the Singapore-India-North America (SINA) service. This new weekly, fixed-day service will link up ports in Southeast Asia, India and Sri Lanka with the east Mediterranean Sea region, Egypt's Port Said and US east coast ports, including the Port of Savannah, according to a statement from the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).
"Singapore-India-North America (SINA) service will bring to Savannah an express service from India that rivals transit times by other services calling at competing ports. The combination of fast transit times from India via the Suez Canal, the Savannah area's available distribution centres and the most efficient intermodal infrastructure on the South Atlantic provides customers throughout the Midwest and southern US a compelling reason to switch their traditional port of entry," said Doug Marchand, Executive Director of the Georgia Ports Authority. Each of the four parties providing the service will deploy two vessels each, operating a total of eight vessels in the 3,500 to 4,000 TEU capacity range.
"SINA also provides excellent transit times from Singapore - the most important relay port for the fast growing Southeast Asia trade," added Mr Marchand. "It will strengthen the already dominant market share Savannah has in the Southeast Asia market."
