Eurofrigo Rotterdam receives Halal hallmark

Eurofrigo Rotterdam has received a certificate and the hallmark from the Dutch National Halal Foundation, for the storage of frozen and chilled food products according to Islamic regulations. The company specialises in temperature-controlled storage, and has two establishments in the port area of Rotterdam. Eurofrigo’s logistics services in Rotterdam are extended to cope with the demands of producers and traders who want to sell their products in the Islamic market throughout the EU.Islamic consumers demand insurance that the offered Halal products are treated according to the dietary laws of their religious faith throughout the entire Halal supply chain. With a potential market of 30 million consumers in Western Europe, the need for Halal storage is growing.Eurofrigo provided Rotterdam’s first Halal hub in conjunction with VAT Logistics which will take care of all non-frozen Halal foodstuffs.
Eurofrigo has dedicated two chambers exclusively for the storage of frozen and refrigerated Halal food products. Halal meat from South America is already stored here, and Eurofrigo is trying to interest leading Halal food producers e.g. from Indonesia and Malaysia.According to Derk van Mackelenbergh, managing director of the cold stores, the concept introduced for South American Halal suppliers entails the storage of a strategic stock at Eurofrigo’s facilities from where smaller quantities can be delivered quickly to their clients.
