Cargo turnover of Klaipeda port up 9.7% in 10M06

Cargo turnover of Klaipeda port (Lithuania) totaled 19.416 million tons in ten months of 2006 (+9.7% against year-on-year result), RZD-Partner reports. In October the port handled 1.884 million tons (+1.9% against year-on-year result). In nine months the port handled 185.5 thou TEU (+5.7% against year-on-year result), 168.9 thou tons of ro-ro cargo (+23.4%). It served 211.9 thou passengers (+11.1%) and 6.4 thou vessels (-5.6%). It is noted that fire at Mazeikiu nafta refinery (MN) of October 12 resulted in decrease of oil products output. MN’s export via Klaipeda has decreased since light oil products go first of all to the markets of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
