"Now with the creation of the South Johor Industrial Logistics Cluster (SILC) within the SJER, there will be more business opportunities for PTP which will support our rapid expansion plans as we are directly located within the region," Mr Harun said. As part of those rapid expansion plans, PTP will be increasing its reefer points to 3,000, while construction on an additional two berths, due to be completed at the end of this year, will see the port's linear quay berths extended from 2.8 kilometres to 3.6 kilometres. PTP will also take delivery of 24 super-post Panamax cranes and 72 rubber-tyred gantry cranes between now and next year.
According to the Malaysian newswire, the 2,500-square kilometre SJER is set to transform Malaysia's southernmost state into a "world-class" business hub on par with others in the region such as Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The Sultan of Johor will officially launch the SJER next Saturday in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Bawadi.
