Port of Tallinn four-month traffic volume down 13.6 percent
Cargo throughput at the port of Tallinn in January-April 2012 totaled 11,099,800 tons, a 13.6% decline from the same period a year ago, the Port Authority statistics said.
Container traffic for the period grew 33% to 77,960 TEUs.
In January-April the port handled 7, 610,500 tons of liquid bulk cargo (-22.1%), 1,326,800 tons of bulk cargo (+23.7%), 1,250,500 tons of rolling cargo.
The number of calls (including passenger vessels) fell 1% to 2,268 ships.
Port of Tallinn ranks third among largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2011, Port of Tallinn’s cargo volume totaled 36. 5 million tons.
