Russian President inks the law on governors election
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed the Federal Law "On amendments to the federal law "On general principles of organization of legislative (representative) and executive bodies of subjects of the Russian Federation" and the federal law "On basic guarantees of electoral rights and the right to participate in the referendum of the citizens of the Russian Federation," the Kremlin press service reported.
The federal law was passed by the State Duma on April 25, 2012, and approved by the Federation Council on April 27, 2012.
The federal law shall enter into force on June 1, 2012. The first election on the basis of these provisions will be held on the second Sunday in October 2012 and will be conducted in those regions of the Russian Federation, where the term of office of senior officials will expire on the date of entry into force of the federal law and until December 31, 2012, inclusive.
