Oman DryDock Company receives two major orders
Oman DryDock Company (ODC) has received two largest carriers for servicing and repairing, the largest order since its inception in April last year, Oman Tribune
reports.
The two carriers -German crude carrier Alpha Glory and Echigo Maru gas carrier- receive maintenance and repair service at the dock.
Alpha Glory has a capacity of 309,636 tonnes. The carrier, which is 333x58x31.2 in size, will receive maintenance and repair service at the dock. The service includes the replacement of a large quantity of steel in addition to cleaning the tanks.
Echigo Maru gas carrier, owned by NYK LNG Management of Japan, has a capacity of 67,219 tonnes and it will receive general maintenance including replacement of a large quantity of steel, the company said in a press release.
Last year, the company had received a gas carrier, Muscat LNG owned by Oman Shipping Company, which was smaller in size.
ODC is the dock in the region that has made such an achievement in short period of operations.
Sheikh Khalil bin Ahmed Al Salmi said that the company seeks to optimise the utilisation of its human resources and facilities to become the best dry dock in the region through providing the best quality service that meets international requirements and place the Sultanate on the world map.
‘Since its soft operation in April 2011, the company completed the maintenance of 77 domestic and international carriers for companies in Japan, the US, India, Iran and other countries. The company also enhanced its presence in the specialised exhibitions and forums to raise awareness of ship owners about the wide range of services provided by the company. The participation in such international events also aim at attracting more customers and reach our pre set goal namely to receive not less than 200 vessels a year, he furthered.
“The marketing team of ODC will visit Greece, Germany, England, Japan, Singapore and some other countries as well to follow up the reports of ODC agents in the five continents,” Salmi said.
ODC was set up in June 2008 over about 1.2 million square metres. The integrated project provides scores of ship repair services for the different sizes of vessels including the very large crude carriers (VLCC), container carriers up to 600,000 as well as oil and gas tankers, cruise ships, commercial vessels and equipment vessels.
